My work uses traditional gilding techniques that have a meditative quality, playing on the light and space of my childhood home in rural Cornwall.
Using materials such as gold size, silver leaf, bole and dragon’s blood, the work is made up of many layers that, when dry, I ‘distress’ with a cracking product. Since I have no control over this final process, the effect is both organic and unique.
The shimmering, abstract panels exude a luminous aura that bathes the viewer in a contemplative mood.
The popularity of my work, presenting these materials in a non-traditional format, demonstrates that silver and gold continue to ‘speak’ in an international language that needs no translation.
