Autumn-winter collection

Designing is well under way for the new collection of art that we’ll be launching at Decorex in September. As mentioned in an earlier blog, we’ll be featuring a number of exciting new painters and many more superb sculptors in ceramic, glass and bronze. We even have what we believe to be the world’s only ‘quantum artist’! You’ll have to order a copy of the collection to find out what her art looks like, but it is stunning!

Guest blogger: Elizabeth James

One of the new artists in our autumn-winter collection is Elizabeth James. Elizabeth is fast building a reputation as a visionary high-speed photographer of ultra-brief phenomena, such as smoke swirls, water drops and coloured fluids intermixing. She has written a short series about ‘colour therapy’, which examines how we relate to colour in our environment, whether in our home or workplace.

You can read about Elizabeth’s ideas here.

Do get in touch with me at simon@murofineart.com to tell me what you think of colour and how you use it in your design practice.

Decorex 2016

The big news this month is that Gallery MURO will be exhibiting at this year’s Decorex interior design show, held in Syon Park, west London, from 18-21 September.

Decorex is internationally renowned for being ‘THE event to discover the very best and most coveted products from our unrivalled collection of 400 hand-selected exhibitors’.

Decorex

We’ll have a lot more to tell you about the show and our stand closer to the event, but you can be sure that we’ll be showing work of the highest quality to designers from all over the world; it’s a fantastic opportunity to raise our profile.

Dorset Art Weeks

One of the biggest Open Studio events in the country is happening in Dorset, with artists at 300 venues throughout the county opening their doors for two weeks in late May and early June.

I’m spending a few days travelling around Dorset, visiting about 20 superb artists working in a wide range of media. I hope to feature many of them in our autumn-winter collection, which you’ll be able to download as soon as it’s published in early September.

Wish me luck!

Until next month…good designing!

The first news this month is that we’re featured in the London issue of the well-respected Bridge for Design magazine. That means nearly 10,000 more interior designers working on properties in the London area will have a chance to download our spring collection of art!

More 3D art!

If you read my April blog, you will know that we’re aiming to include more three-dimensional art in our second collection, to be published in September. I’m pleased to say that a number of highly talented and internationally collected makers of beautiful glass, ceramic and bronze sculptures have agreed to being featured and I’ll announce their names closer to publication date. The inclusion of their work will certainly raise the profile of Gallery MURO among designers working on luxury interiors.

Latest guest blog now out!

Rupert Dixon picI’m also pleased to announce the latest in our series of guest blogs by artists and designers. Rupert Dixon worked for many years as an interior designer, but has also interiors as a subject for his paintings.

Rupert has written a stimulating and thought provoking piece about the role of art in interior design. I welcome your comments on Rupert’s piece and any other art and interior design matters.

We’re very pleased by the continued positive reception for our spring-summer collection of art that we published at the beginning of March.

Interior designers, architects and other property folks – as well as artists who have asked to be considered for the next issue – are downloading the digital edition and giving us valuable feedback about the range of art we’re offering. They’re also requesting other genres and media, which we’re looking at for our second issue, which will be published at the beginning of September.

For example, there is clearly a demand for sculpture and glass art across a range of interiors, so look out for some exciting new work by emerging artists using those media.

We’re also pleased to publish the first of what will be a regular feature: a guest article by a practising interior designer. Our first guest writer is Diego Correa (www.diegocorreainteriordesign.com), describing five key questions to consider when sourcing art for the home. Please read Diego’s article and send us your comments: agree or disagree? Perhaps you’ve got a different list of points you’d want art buyers to consider.

Finally for this month, a bit of advance notice that we’re in discussion with a major furniture brand to put on an exhibition in their London showroom. Invites to the Private View will go out to their London clients and interior designers in the London area…watch this space for more details!

AT LAST! Our first catalogue of original and very limited edition contemporary art is OUT!

Interior designers and other property professionals who need to source art for their latest project, whether a boutique hotel, a luxury retail space or a private residence, can now request a digital copy of our Spring-Summer 2016 Collection.

I’ve already received some very positive comments about the look of the catalogue from designers and others. Unusually, our room settings for the art we’re featuring are illustrated rather than photographic, and this approach has generally been welcomed: it seems to emphasise the art in its setting, which is the effect we wanted to achieve. A big ‘thank you’ to illustrator Claire Rollet for her contribution in that regard.

30-31

Similarly, the division of the catalogue into a section for artists and a section for themes, organised by price band, has proved popular. It looks as though some designers are scanning the art styles first while others are more mindful of their budget!

48-49

In fact, we’ll be printing a limited number of copies in a couple of weeks’ time, so you can request a print copy if you email me at simon@murofineart.com. I know some designers prefer to look at a physical catalogue when choosing art or showing a client a particular artist’s style. Artwork often does look better somehow on paper than on screen!

I’m also pleased with the feedback we’re already getting to our ad in the March issue of Bridge for Design, the international resource for interior designers. We’re on page 54 of the print edition.
Click on the cover below to see us on page 43 of their digital edition.

Before I finish, I really want to acknowledge the fantastic efforts of our website and catalogue designer Glen Innes of art!iculate. It’s thanks to Glen’s sterling efforts that the catalogue is getting such a positive response.

Good designing!

To all our new subscribers

2016 has certainly hit the ground running! I’ve visited lots of artists in their studios in the past month or so and I’m pleased to say that 20 creators of stunning contemporary art have now confirmed for our spring 2016 catalogue, which we’ll publish online and in print at the beginning of March.

And unlike most catalogues of art you might have seen, we won’t be photographing artworks in contrived room settings; unusually, you’ll see them set against the walls of rooms and spaces illustrated in a single colour. In that way, we think the artworks will be enhanced by the backgrounds instead of disappearing amongst the furnishings and accessories. I’ll show you a few sample spreads in the February blog, so you can get a flavour of the look-and-feel of the catalogue.

It’s been a challenge, but also a lot of fun, selecting the right art at the right prices to feature in the catalogue. The themes for the spring issue include:

• Colour, line and shape
• Coast
• Land
• City
• Flower
• Body
• Glass

But our catalogue also reflects our emphasis on the artist. So you’ll also see that we give each artist their own double-page spread in which they describe their practice and inspirations. We feature examples of their best work, which will either be for sale or will serve to illustrate the style of art you can commission and the price you’ll pay.

Last but not least, we’ve secured the services of a superb printer and framer, a firm of craftsmen with more than 35 years’ experience in mounting and framing fine art. I’ll introduce the ‘framing team’ in my next blog.

So…lots of exciting developments in the run up to publication of the spring 2016 Gallery MURO catalogue.
Best wishes for an art-filled and successful 2016!

Simon
